A Case Study of Sandplay Therapy for "Puer Aeternus"

Abstract

|
The study presents a case of sandplay therapy for a young man. Although he is 34 years old, he has difficulty in active living due to his being overly self-conscious, general feebleness and a lack of confidence. Based on our knowledege of ‘puer aeternus’, his characters are similar with this ‘puer aeternus’. He is unduly dependent on his mother. He shows the typical style of the ‘puer aeternus’. His problems are attributed to a negative mother complex. To overcome his apparent Mother Complex, he needs a greater balance between his conscious and unconscious. This case is clearly one of Jungian individuation. It is expected that sandplay therapy can help him to achieve greater individuation.
